We collaborated to make this refashioned maxi skirt and waistcoat. They started life as discarded pairs of jeans. These jeans were rescued and transformed using fabric remnants and offcuts into a beautiful skirt and waistcoat.
We took scrap fabric pieces and repurposed them to construct the coloured panels of the skirt using a quilting piecing technique. Strip foundation piecing arranges strips of fabric and attaches them onto a backing.
To construct your own maxi skirt, take a pair of jeans that are the right size around the waist. Then undo the inside leg seams. By undoing this, you can see how you will then create the back and front of the skirt. The skirt is then constructed using two triangular fabric from the back and front. Here we made two pieces with colourful scraps into a triangle and then attached to the skirt.

Collaboration
This outfit shows how garments can be upcycled and co-created. By combining hands-on making skills with textile techniques to translate waste and scrap fabric into something new.

This Denim OffCut MakerOver was jointly created with Jenny Whittaker, @Mary Horesh and Yvonne Burr from the @EalingRepairCafe working with artist Lucie Hernandez from @touchcrafttextiles for the @voice_community_ project.
We supported the Remaykit fashion show event on the 15th June 2025 for Wandsworth Arts Fringe and showcased the Denim OffCut MakerOver we created during the Voice project.
