Ealing Repair Cafe has a travel iron that was kindly donated for our sessions but it has gained marks on it.
Yvonne, who volunteers at our sessions has a great and simple solution, paracetamol. Yvonne makes beautiful quilts and discovered this through one of her groups, as quilting can use a lot of starch on fabrics and this can build up on the iron.
How to clean your iron with Paracetamol?
- Turn the iron on to hot setting
- Using tweezers or pliers to hold paracetamol
- Gently rub the paracetamol on the iron, being careful not to scratch the iron with the pliers / tweezers
- Using a kitchen towel or a cotton rag rub the marks off. You may have to go over it a few times if there’s a lot of build-up. Hopefully leaving you with a lovely shiny iron.
