When buying items for repairing and sewing it’s good to support your local high street. We are lucky to have some businesses locally to Ealing and West London that offer a great selection.

Did you know that when you support a local shop it keeps more money in the local economy?
When you spend a Magic Tenner in a local independent shop up to £50 goes back into the local economy through the network of local suppliers and spending – it’s magic!

Goldhawk Road Fabric Shops: At one end of the Shepherds Bush Market is Gold Hawk Road Fabrics where there are plenty of fabric stalls with a huge choice. Some of the shops photographed below.

Online small businesses

Sew Me Sunshine, The Light Box, Unit G.32, 111 Power Road, Chiswick, W4 5PY
teamsunshine@sewmesunshine.co.uk
Still relatively local, based in Chiswick Sew me sunshine is an independent online fabric and haberdashery selling dressmaking fabrics and haberdashery items. They are on a mission to be a sustainable sewing business and have this sustainability policy You can also book to visit on Tuesday and Thursday between 10.30-3.30. It’s a short walk from Gunnersbury or Kew Bridge stations.

We also like using Darning Discs, which is available on:
- Etsy Search for Darning Discs as some small businesses and woodturners make them.
- Slow Stitch club, plus other darning equipment.
- Sewing Gem: Great supplies for Darning including a darning disc.

Ministry of Mending, 6, Kingsley Court, Fraddon, St Columb, Cornwall, TR9 6PD
We are big fans of the Ministry of mending. Although not local its a small business focused on mending and equipment. Our favorites are their darning discs which are great for darning most items and easier to use than a mending mushroom or embroidery hoop. They also have kits, recycled yarns and speedweve if you want to go up a level in your mending.
Good luck with getting all your supplies and if you need help with your mending, have a look at our Guides and tips.
How about Southall- they have many fabric small businesses and are in Ealing!
